When you become an affiliate for these sites, and bring in a person who makes a purchase, you get a commission much like when you refer a good candidate for your company and get bonus or commission for it.

When you sign up for these options, you get a link, an affiliate link that you need to spread to as many people you can, and try converting their visit into a purchase order. You can spread this link through various ways, but the most effective of all is creating a website. When a person visits your website, and then clicks his way to Amazon, and luckily makes a purchase, you get a commission. And this is not even the best part. When this customer purchases something else also, you still get a commission. Only condition here is that the purchase has to be within the next 24 hours.

For Amazon, the steps start with you selecting a category for the product that you want to promote. After which, you create a website of your own, and then get yourself registered as an affiliate with Amazon. After which select the product you want to promote with all research about it from Amazon’s website. From there, write an article about it on your website and then add your affiliate link to this article.

step 1: CHOOSING THE PRODUCT OF YOUR LIKING FROM THE VARIOUS CATEGORIES AVAILABLE

View and visit Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and other popular websites that offer these options and select the category of your wish and interest the most. The important point here is to select something of your choice and not what you think is popular. There’s a reason to it, which will be explained later on. You could always select more categories, but serving one area with familiarity gives better insight to you, and ease develops in it for you to manage the load as well. You can serve better to a specific niche rather than poorly to all. Also, do not forget to check the commission rates for the products’ category you choose. You will be doing it for the money in it, wouldn’t you?

step 2: WEBSITE CREATION

The foundation of your online business will be formed by a website, not to demean other modes and means of promoting, but having a website is the most effective, broader-reaching, and future-stabilized way of promoting the affiliate link and the product of your selection. Since, creating a website is not a load anymore, and takes just about a few minutes and another few minutes for its launch, this mode is safer and guarantees more returns. Moreover, make sure that the website name is attractive, or has a ring to it or at least shows some link to the product you are going to promote.

Remember to choose the site with better commission rates for your choice of product category. And if the rates are the same, read reviews of users about these portals and then make a decision. Select the one with better ratings from users or better services provided. It is during this registration of yours, that Amazon, or Flipkart will ask for your website address and link and thus that step should be done before hand only and not simultaneously. The procedure is so liberal that even though you may not have added content to the website, or the content is still not uploaded, you can simply describe the steps you are going to take in the promotion of the product that you have chosen and then you get their approval.

step 4: FROM THE CATEGORY, TO FINALLY SELECTING THE ITEM THAT YOU WILL BE PROMOTING

Knowing prior to this step the product you want to promote sure saves time but not knowing it isn’t an issue either. You can learn about the product from the shopping portal itself. Just visit the page of your preferred website or portal for online shopping, go to the product category you have finalized on, and select an item of your choice now. Make sure this choice of yours is rationale, and that you have seen user ratings and views and comments on it. Try always selecting an item with higher ratings, because this is what you will display on your site and higher ratings are anyways lucrative for customers to make that last click on the purchase button. Also, it is an easier task to promote a product that is already making good sales than a lesser-known or unknown choice.

step 5: CONTENT WRITING FOR THAT PRODUCT OF YOURS

After so many clicking and making options, this step needs creativity and description. Here, you need to make content, or rather write an article about the product you want to promote. You can make the content in so many different ways, you could make it a “how-to” tutorial page, or a “comparison and results’ page, or other ways. Just make sure the content adheres to the product or the item selected and that it shows it uses, its durability, its access, its need, its colours if any are available and the basics about it. Always ensure that a visitor, even though he doesn’t make a purchase is benefited from you page and content. You could also include best selling products, or a list of best available coupons, vouchers and discounts on the product category you have decided to promote or in general. The reason, it was mentioned earlier to choose a product of your choice mainly, was because of this. Because you have to write a whole article promoting it and describing it, and if you already have ease or familiarity it helps in writing words and framing sentences about an item.

step 6: ADDING THE AFFILIATE LINK TO YOUR CONTENT PAGE AND WEBSITE

When you are signed in as an associate or an affiliate to one od these websites, you get a usually grey bar at the top, in case of lets say Amazon, and now you just right click it and get the link to this page option appears. You select it and copy the link of that page. Go back to your article, click on the buy button you made, which you have to make incase it hasn’t already been done, and edit it and add this link to the popup options that display. Now, when a user clicks on the buy button he or she will be redirected to amazon or flipkart’s pages, where the item is displayed and with some luck he might just buy it.

step 7: HOW MUCH DID YOU MAKE OUT OF IT?

On your associate or affiliate page, where you are signed in to the website, there usually are options that display a report of some sorts of your money and earnings, and how much did you make and through what item, what was its price, what is the commission rate and ultimately what was your revenue in it.

This is how it is done. This is the gist of affiliate marketing. It is, now, in India being done through Facebook as well. There are so many websites that have started this process, and are making their way up through these third party promotion techniques. There are ads on Facebook of referrals; there are text messages about adding your contacts to a particular list and getting discounts, and so on. The end result is always aimed at getting more users, while maintaining existing users, and making these existing users loyal and promoters of your own venture.

Although it has just started in India, is mostly popular with Amazon and Flipkart only, it is soon and fast gaining access and popularity.
